I have a friend who wants me to make a batch for her that has a 15% superfatting with the folowing oils:

40% coconut oil
25% Olive oil
25% Soybean oil
10% Shea butter

This is a goats milk

I'm not sure if I will have a problem with rancid oils, so I thought I ask before I do it. She's buying all the supplies and I just want to make sure it won't be a waste of her money and my time.

Also is that too much coconut oil?

Thanks in advance for your input.

There is a chance that this soap could end up very soft for a long time. It will also be more prone to DOS. Why that much superfat?

She's been reading a book that recomends that much superfating. I told her it's too much but that's what she wants. I'm thinking 7% is more than enough. She has never made soap before so this would be a how to lesson for her.

If she insist on 15% should I use a preservative?

you know, goat milk is going to add even more to the superfat, so it will actually be even higher than 15% - at some point it stops being good soap, and starts being horrible cheese, lol.

she's probably looking at the cavitch book, yes? the books are great overall, but that's one particular point that i disagree with.

Any preservative that you use will get eaten up by the lye. It's a waste in soap.

You guys are the best, you know that? Magic-Hands you r too funny... I'm gonna print this up so she can see I'm not crazy, LOL.

I will ask her for the title and author of the book. I'm gonna have to get my own copy of it.

I'm going to make my own version of her recipe at 6% Superfatting and gift it to her for christmas, Hopefully it will be enough to convince her.

wish me luck!!!!

You're welcome. Even 7% should be ok.

Thanks for all your input. I convinced her to do a 7% superfatting and it turned out very nice.
