Hello,

I made some Yuzu loofah soap in a round tube mold the other day. Though if I set up my soaphutch cutter at 1" I could cut the loofah soap straight and I had a knife that worked. It didn't work, so my sister said she wanted to mark 1" sections with a knife and cut that way without the cutter and she couldn't for the life of her get them straight. Well we can go the rustic route for these soaps. My sister said because the tube moves around so much when you are slicing through the loofah it's hard to get straight.

In the past I've done individual loofah M&P molds. Any tips for cutting CP loofah straight.

Here is a photo of two that are sort of straight:

I would try a miter box and a serrated edge knife. Your best bet is to pre-cut the loofah, so it will fit into individual molds.

soapbuddy,

Thanks, after this experiment I will definitely go back to individual molds or pre cut 1" pieces in the round tubing so it's a breeze to cut. Think I'll call it Yuzu Rustic Loofah soap and put a nice piece of raffia around it. I gelled this one too which I haven't done in a long time as I couldn't figure out how to put this in the fridge.

Is there a special cutter you could buy specifically for round soaps? I notice my round soaps roll a bit when I am cutting and just wondered if that would help a) with the loofah to keep them in place and b) with any round soap?

Since I use PVC molds for almost everything I do, I had my Dad help me make up a special mitre box which is exactly 3 inches wide with cuts every inch. (bottom piece)

The other piece on top is a wire cutter that slices everything evenly though for Loofah soaps I just use a sharp knife.

I tried to convince him to mass produce and sell these but he's having none of it. :)
So you would need to find someone who is handy.

xyxoxy - just wanted to say thanks for posting your pic of your soap cutter. I hope you don't mind but I showed it to my Marine who is home on leave and he made me one yesterday. He used spider wire from the fishing department at wally world because its strong and wont stretch. Its wonderful!!! I, of course, just had to make a cphp batch to test it out and WOW! Cut my cutting time from 1/2 hour to less than 2 minutes. I'm very grateful for your kind posting, its saved me a bunch of aggravation.
