Hello, everyone!
I made my first batch of salt bars today. I cut them within half an hour of pouring them in the mold because they got really hard. Now, about five hours later I noticed that the are getting hot. I wonder if they are going to gel now after cut? Are they going to turn into jelly?
Thanks

I usually wait at least a couple of hours after I pour my salt bars. They usually gel. As soon as they start cooling off (but are still quite warm), I take the soap out and cut it. I use oven gloves and a knife since the soap at this point is still quite hot.

It's possible that what you are getting is delayed gel. Can you put them back into your mold?

Salt Bars are funny. Sometimes I think mine are gelling as I'm pouring, other times not.

I really think it's hard to actually 'see' gel with salt soap, as the salt is taking up so much
of the volume.

That is why I no longer make salt bars that need to be cut.
I either use individual molds or my Kelsei divider molds.

Makes life much, much easier!

I just woke up and checked on them and they are fine! They are nice and cool- still have their shape and the color is the same.
I was pretty surprised yesterday on how fast they set up. I didn't want to wait too much for fear of getting a crumbly mess.
I can't wait for these to cure to try them out!

Sounds like you will be fine then. Yes, salt bars tend to set up very fast.

Now, if I wanted to add color to a salt bar I would do this before adding the salt?

Okay - I thought about it and of course I should add the color before the salt. I didn't think before I posted
