I have a list of oil substitutes from Bramble Berry. I show flakes can be substituted for oil. Is that if you are just in a bind and are a little short of oil or can I completely replace the oil with the flakes? For some reason I have a bunch of flakes and don't know what to do with them.

I am so happy with my non gelling soap. Should something scare me. What is this lye pockets thing? How could I tell. I never permit anyone to use my soap for at least eight weeks. I have been soaping about eight years. I got cocky yesterday and I think I combined at too high a temperature. I got a crack on top even though it was in the frig. It was also plopped in the mold instead of poured.

Use the palm kernel flakes to replace all or part of your coconut oil. They have similar fatty acid profiles (high lauric and myristic acids) and lend the same properties to your soap. I would not go much above 15% or the result may be too harsh and drying for most skin.

Lard or other tallow would be the substitute for palm oil. They are both high in oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids. When doing any substitutions, ensure you run your recipe through the SoapCalc again.
