Been wanting to try out Citrus essential oils in soap for a while now, though a while back, while looking around at the different citrus oils, i noticed most of them had the warning note " photosensitizing - do not use before exposure to the sun", and upon researching further into photosensitizing essential oils, i found a few cases where people got some pretty nasty sunburn from using them in their own homemade perfumes/lotions, etc....

Anyway was wondering if this warning still applies to soap? If using only maximum 2% EO's the weight of the oils - e.g. i'd usually use 36g or less of EO's for an 1800g (oils weight) soap batch.

Soap is a wash off product. It doesn't stay on the skin like a lotion. Some, like orange oil fade in soap.

thanks soapbuddy! :) hmmmm just wondering if one was to leave a bit of soapy residue on the skin though, could it be photosensitizing? or is the 2% EO use in soap too low for any negative effects? :)
Just after reading and seeing whats happened after some people used them in perfumes makes me very cautious about using them

The photosensitivity is more important for leave on products like lotions or perfumes. Some citrus oils like Bergamot can be bought bergaptene free.
