Hi All,

Am wanting to make a calamine soap and wanted our take on the following recipe:

Canola Oil 3.04 oz
Castor Oil 1.52 oz
Cocoa Butter 0.30 oz
Coconut Oil (Virgin) 12.15 oz
Palm Oil 7.29 oz
Rice Bran Oil 5.70 oz
Lye 4.37 oz
Water 9.90
2 tbsp calamine powder
4 ozs eo (rosemary+teatree+lavendar)

Superfatted @ 5%

Am low on cocoa butter so cant use much. Any suggestions on if this good to go ahead with or not?

Thanks!!!! :)

Personally I would super fat a bit higher and cut the amount of essential oils down a little bit staying at a usage rate of .5 ounces ppo for both the rosemary and tea tree. you are over a little since the recipe not including the EOs is only 30 ounces of oil. Lavender you can use at a slightly higher concentration .8 oppo.
You may consider adding some avocado oil or other high vitamin E oil to help sooth the skin.
My concern with only supper-fatting at 5 % is that you may be washing away the benefits of the calamine.

That's a lot of coconut oil. I don't use it above 20%
I don't use canola oil as it gave my soap DOS.
I would go with a higher superfat; like 7-8%
There is no need to add vitamin E to handmade soap. It does not survive the saponification process.
