Teach Soap

Just looking for some more info/opinions on this one - Heard this a few days ago for the first time in a random soapmaking book, that "apparently" Castor oil has a sort of protein or something in it that can be "toxic"??? therefore the book reccomended buying "detoxified Castor oil"???

is there any actual validity to this claim? or is this just going overboard? first iv'e heard of it, apparently after a quick google search, the castor oil Plant and beans can apparently be toxic/poisonous, but the oil is apparently safe even to ingest in small amounts???

therefore would this ever be an issue in using castor oil in soap making? or like previously mentioned, is this claim to use only "detoxified castor oil" just rubbish? lol

Castor beans contain ricin, which is poisonous. But the ricin protein is denatured (meaning it loses its structure) during the process of making castor oil, which renders it effectively harmless.

It's one of those things which is technically correct, but in reality it's just a marketing gimmick and scare tactic.

ahhhh nicee.... thought it was to do with scare tactics/ marketing, seemed weird that no other castor oil supplier would mention it otherwise....
