I re-batched about two and a half pounds of soap recently and have a question about my results I hope someone can help me with.

The soap looks great and I didn't have any problems with the re-batch process but it has absolutely no lather. I didn't do anything different than I usually do other than add a half ounce of avocado oil.

The soap scraps were from several different recipes and I am wondering if some combination in the soap has possibly killed my lather? or is it the avocado oil?

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem?

It's probably from the avocado oil, although a half ounce doesn't seem like enough to make too much of a difference. Rebatched soap is already saponified, so the extra oil just sits there and doesn't change.

Unless your soap was lye heavy, there is no need to add an extra oil to a rebatch. My bet is on the added avocado oil too.

Thanks guys. The batches that I used shavings from were only supper-fatted at 5% so I added a small amount of oil to make the re-batch a little more conditioning.

When I started looking back at my notes to see what oils I had used I noticed that one of the batches I used scraps from was a batch I had used bee's wax in, not something I normally do but it was a request. I think you are right and the avocado oil in conjunction with the bee's wax was just more than the soap could handle.

I'm going to give it the shower test and see if it performs better in the warmer water. I normally lather test with lukewarm water in the sink but the bee's wax may need a warmer immersing to soften enough to lather.

I use beeswax in almost every batch since I prefer not to gel. I have not had a problem with less lather. I think that depends more on the recipe.
I always superfat at 7-8% as anything below that my skin finds drying.

Okay so I shower tested and it lathered rather nicely. I think what happened initially was caused by me trying to lather test right after casting some new molds in silicone. I must have had some of one of the two rubber components on my hands which kind of sealed the soap or something.

But it seems fine now so chalk that one up to Daddy forgetting to put his gloves on before he made molds.
