I haven't been around for a while - but wanted to post this for anyone that has the Big Lots chain in their area. I just picked up a 1 gallon/128 ounce jar of non-hydrogenated coconut oil for $12. Without tax that's .09 an ounce.

Now I don't make large amounts and don't sell my soap, so I am buying within the context of retail and not wholesale. But this is the cheapest price I've ever seen on coconut oil - retail. Even my Costco olive oil runs .11 per ounce.

YMMV and all that, but check it out if you have a Big Lots in your area.

They had a 20% off last Sunday. I bought some to see if it's suitable for soap. I paid $9 per gallon.

The brand is Butcher Boy, but it's manufactured by Columbus Foods where I already purchase a lot of my oils.

How do you run food grade lye on the bb lye calc? Would I still use the 76 degree coconut oil?
