I keep reading recipes where it says not to "disturb" the soap between pouring into the mold and when it's unmolded, but they don't give an explanation as to why. It makes sense for soaps with fancy tops, swirls, etc, but what about a plain unscented uncolored soap?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm hosting a soaping night at my house and the participants were hoping to take their soap home that night. Is there any reason why they can't transport it to their own home? I know there's the possibility of spillage, but I was hoping to minimize it by using milk cartons as molds and sealing them. Is there something else I haven't considered?

Just as long as those cartons are sealed, I don't see why not. They know to let the soap cure after it comes out of the mold, right?

Great! Thanks for the reply!
And yes, they do know that it will need to cure after unmolding/cutting. Hopefully they will be patient. :D

If you are trying to get the soap to gel then peeking at the soaps can release some heat and cause them to partially gel or not gel at all. The soaps don't have to gel, but that is usually where the 'no peeking' rule comes into play.
