Teach Soap

Do you ladies have any online resources that you used when you first started selling your soap? I am considering doing some charity events around my parts but I think it would still be considered selling. (One event I would split the profits) Did you bump into any regulation issues? Say, like with your town, making soap out of your house? I don't want to start something with good intentions and then get slammed by my ignorance!!!

Anytime you split profits you are selling.
In my town, I need a business license, a resale license, a home inspection and liability insurance.
If you are in the US, go to your city hall and ask as some regulations vary from state to state.
For example, laws in Florida vary greatly.

I am in NJ and I left a message for my town. I guess if I'm going to do this, I will need to do all that as well. Thanks for the info! I was concerned wondering if having the lye in the house would freak anyone in town hall out. If they have Drano, they have it also, they just most likely don't know that! LOL!! I would love to do more charity work with the soap, it's something to do with it all this soap and it's nice to be able to support local causes. Again, thanks so much for your knowledge!! It's appreciated!!!

You can also check your state's website and the small business administration (sba.gov) for info on setting up a business.

Thanks!!! Yes I will register with the state but I was worried about my town also. I spoke to someone at town hall and they said as long as I don't have customers coming to the house and I'm selling outside the home, I don't have to do anything on a local level! At least that's one less thing to worry about!!!

Linda, I was afraid what my town might say since I discovered they had an application for "at home businesses" on the web site. When I called and explained what I was doing the woman I spoke to also used to rep some type of product and she said once in a while she even did parties in her house and as long as I didn't have people coming to the house it was fine. I laughed at the thought of the woman in charge of upholding the regulations of the town breaking them!!! She told me to get a PO box and not put my home address on anything. OOOkkkaaayyyyy.......
