A scale should specify to what increment it is capable of measuring. According to the description, Bramble Berry's scale displays to 0.05 oz, which is 1.4 grams. If measuring to within 1.4 grams is near enough for Bramble Berry's scale, your 1 gram scale is close enough (actually closer!) Your oil wouldn't be more than 1 gram off either way if measured to 518 grams, which is less than 0.2% off. That should be an acceptable margin for error within a 5% superfat.

Thanks, Soapbuddy! I had been using a tiny gram scale like a drug dealer might carry!

Last December, digi scales were everywhere in the Free Shops on the border. Not as much choice now & none measure to 1/10 gram. I'd got a cool one that goes up to 10 lbs. just for the kitchen...

Now, with your trick, I can put the little one away & use the new one! I'd been trying to be precise on the lye & to the gram up on oils. Your rule is an easy one to remember.

One of the things I like about this forum is all the genuine sharing that goes on... That, and nobody seems to cultivate a snarky attitude, MAJOR turn-off for me.
