Hi everyone,

New to CP soap making and I was just wondering if it was possible to prevent a soap from going through the gel phase and if it would affect the soap in any way? I've made one small batch of Castille soap because all I had to hand was extra virgin olive oil. Poured in into individual moulds and unmoulded after 48 hours. I just didn't realise that it can take up to six months to cure fully so I'll probably be doing another small batch to test another recipe.

If you are new to soapmaking, I would gel til you get the hang of the process.
Things can go wrong if you don't gel. You can end up with a crumbly batch or lye pockets.
I prefer not to gel, but I've been making soap for 40 years and am very familiar with the process.

For that size batch, I would do 76-77 grams of lye. That would make it 7-8% superfat.
