For those of you who sell your soap creations, do you put a disclaimer on your packaging about avoiding essential oils during pregnancy? Apart from the obvious regulations regarding ingredients, what else do you put on your packaging relative to protecting yourself?

Thanks!

The short answer:
No, I do not put any warning against using essential oils while pregnant.

The long answer:
Not all essential oils are cautioned against while pregnant. Some sources will tell a woman to consult her physician regardless of what the oil is.

I do not use any essential oils at this time that are specifically listed as not for use by pregnant women.

In reality, all essential oils will interact with our body chemistry as they are absorbed, regardless of how. For example, lavender essential oil increases seratonin output in the human brain when smelled. Most essential oils are not very well documented in relation to pregnant women - I would mark this up to a general reluctance to test things on pregnant women.

In case you yourself have not been pregnant before, pregnant women can experience a variety of strange and/or anomalous responses to any bodily input. It is possible to develop allergies - both temporary and permanent. It is also possible to develop hives for no reason at all, heat rashes when there has been little to no exposure to heat, and irritated or hypersensitive skin just for the fun of it. Ah, the joys of pregnancy that no one cared to mention before hand!

I mark all of my products with a message to discontinue use immediately if irritation occurs. Use your best judgment, but do pass on warning labels from your suppliers and your own research. There are some essential oils which can encourage a miscarriage and other not so pleasant results. There are also essential oils which can increase the occurrence of heart rate and palpitations, so be sure to follow through on your research and provide the correct warning labels. :)

No, I do not. Our forum owner soaped while she was pregnant and so did I. Soap is a wash off product. It doesn't stay on the skin long enough. It's like saying that diabetics should not use a sugar scrub because it will raise their blood sugar. Respect the oils that you use, and use them in a safe/recommended amount.
