Teach Soap

Hi Folks -

I just wanted to ask everyone which lye calculator they use and why?

I suppose each calculator are tweaked differently so as to render slightly different results.

I use SoapCalc.... for no real reason other than it's the first one I used and I am used to it.

I use SoapCalc, too, just because that's the one I've heard everyone else say is good. I haven't tried (or heard of) any others. One of the things I really like about SoapCalc is that you can print out all your information. Then, (since I'm bad about taking notes myself) I have it if I decide to write it all down in a soaping journal.

I use Soapsheet by Chris Mathes...its simple with no bells and whistles and its downloadable as an excel sheet. There's an updated version too but I haven't used that one as of yet. Its on K Millers site

I use the Sage lye calculator as I don't need all the bells and whistles some use. It's been around for a long time.

I used The Sage lye calculator for years. I switched to Soapcalc, b/c I like the fact that I can raise or lower the water percentage. However, what I really miss is that The Sage gave you the range of lye values - from 0% superfat to 10%.

I prefer Summer Bee Meadow Calculator. You can add in different size containers and it's real simple. I wish it added the info about the qualities like soapcalc, but I find it's simpler and easy to understand.
