I have two questions. Does anyone have a good skin soap recipe? I just got a request for an eczema soap, but I can't really find a good recipe for one. Can I use a melt and pour base to make one? I would prefer a cold process one, but I'm desperate.

Thank you very much!

Sorry I don't have any definite answers but I have heard pine tar soap works well for eczema.... if you don't mind the smell

Regular unscented, uncolored mild soap should work. I would suggest a bastile, which is 95% olive with 5% castor at 7-8% superfat.

Thank you so much! I actually made that soap recipe last Monday, but I added a fo to it. If I added oatmeal to it should it work better? I'm making this soap as soon as I get home today.

Thank you very much!!!!!

Fragrance can be irritating. Sure, you can add oatmeal, but make sure it's colloidal only, as regular ground oatmeal can be scratchy.

My little one has eczema (praying she outgrows it) and I make an unscented goat milk, honey, & colloidal oatmeal soap for her. It doesn't irritate her skin at all and she's feels even softer after her baths. :)

Just be VERY careful about what you say. Calling it a soap for eczema puts it into an over the counter drug, which the FDA does not allow.

I've told the people who wanted the soap already that I would make it with ingredients that could help the eczema-- not that it would help. I don't need/want the fda or anyone else breathing down my neck. :-/

I researched how to make cold process soap for nearly a year before I decided to make it. I collected my recipes and got everything together first. I've used every one I've ever made. I've given it out to family and friends first before doing so. It wasnt just make and then sell. I know each recipe needs to be throughout vetted before selling. Even then, there are so many people who just make it and then sell it before testing it out. Granted I've just started testing out recipes with palm oil, bu canola, olive, coconut oils I have tried. Even though I don't have a true favorite recipe.

I mean am I doing something wrong? I have researched on several sites from wholesale, soapqueen, here, swiftmonkey, and so many other soap forums. If I shouldn't be selling please let me know.

Is there a proper time frame?

You keep contradicting yourself.
You say you have just started making soap. Research and practical experience are no where near the same thing.

You also say that you know every recipe must be thoroughly vetted.
You really think that 3 1/2 months is enough time to have mastered or vetted any recipe? You have no idea if a soap that is only 3 1/2 months old will stand the test of time. Time means at least a year, not a few weeks.

You are wanting to make eczema soap, which, as Irena correctly pointed out - means you are manufacturing OTC drugs. Are you a licensed drug manufacturer?

I have read your other posts and questions - all of them. They are fine - but they are absolutely the simple basic questions asked by newbies, not people who are experienced soapers ready to sell.

And then you come here and ask if you should or shouldn't be selling?
Really?

Just my 2 cents. We all choose to do whatever we are comfortable with.
