Teach Soap

I just bought some palm kernal flakes. Do I use it in the same percentage as I would palm oil? Any tricks for usage that I should be aware of?

Palm oil and Palm kernel oil or flakes are NOT the same.

Palm oil is made from the fruit, palm kernek is made from the seed/nut.
You need to get a good online lye calculator and plug in your oils and numbers - it will save you a lot of grief.

I use the one called "soap Calc" - a google search should bring it up for you.

What is the difference between palm kernel oil and flakes?
I have big chunks of palm kernel, (that is what I thought it was, but it is very hard like cocoa butter, not an oil?)
so I have been using Palm Kernel Oil in the soap calc?

The flakes are hydrogenated. I prefer them because they are a lot easier to measure and work with. My calc shows their saponification values to be the same, though.

Palm KERNEL has similar properties to coconut, so you can use it as a lather booster, for instance, subbing out part or all of your coconut for palm kernel.
