Teach Soap

I read that spraying with alcohol prevents the ash on soap. Didn't work for me. I just shaved about a 16th of an inch off 2 logs of soap. I was going to throw the shavings away but thought I would ask are they any good for anything?

Ash is just aesthetic. You can use the shavings in another batch.

Would I just chop them up and mix them in? Will the fragrance carry over into the new batch? Glad to know I can use them. It seemed a shame to waste them. I was concerned that the soda ash might cause my new batch to also get it. How do you prevent it or get rid of it if you do get it?

Chop or shred them up and add them at thick trace, so they stay suspended. It's best to use a similar or compatible fragrance with the shreds. It's the nature of the best. Some people get ash, some people don't. It might have something to do with humidity. I live in the desert, where there is no humidity.

And some EOs & FOs are more likely to cause ash. If you keep good notes, you might begin to see a pattern.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

yep, what they said! Lol Also, you can use the shavings in a bag (muslin/cotton) as a wash bag. I get ash once in a while but I usually leave it. Nobody has ever commented about it, they just think it was my intention/design.
