Teach Soap

I know some of you live in much hotter climates than I do. It's been more humid than anything here and I've had the ac on the last week or so. It's probably going to be in the 90's the next few days though. I really need to get some soap made soon and this may be the weekend for me. I really really need more LS

Any extra precautions I need to make? I can do the lye on my deck if need be, but it will be hot there. It's 85 now

For me, the humidity is more a problem than the heat. When there is so much moisture in the air, the lye will pull it from the air. I have spilled a lye crystal on my counter and watched it dissolve before my eyes just from the water in the air! Sometimes, the lye will moisten enough to stick to the side of my weighing container, so rather than a few grains that I can type into the lye pitcher, I have a thin coating of lye clinging to the inside of the weighing container. When you weigh your water, set aside a small portion of that and use that to rinse your lye weighing container, then dump that water into the lye pitcher.

I live in the desert where temps reach triple digits every day, but we have no humidity. I have no problems making soap in this heat.

I learn so much when I can't leave well enough alone!

With the ac on, I don't have a humidity issue! But the windows are closed. I always opened one while doing the lye in the winter.

I know your climate is much drier Soapbuddy - do you use ac?

You can also wipe the container you're using to weight the lye with a dryer sheet - that helps cut down on static and makes it easier to get all the lye beads out.
