The freezer paper is perfect and what I use when I use a wood mold. You can buy a candy thermometer at walmart or a similar store for under 3$, you don't have to have an expensive one to begin with or ever.
I hope you feel up to soaping soon!

Thanks. I will check kmart and see if I can get to walmart its about 30 minutes from me and I dont drive. I was so surprised fred meyers didnt have them  I could have missed them I guess. I know when I went to the doller store for most my stuff I walked past the gloves twice and had to ask where they were and they were right next to where I was looking. I kinda get tunnle vision when Im out so long Im in so much pain I kinda go into a zone So Ill check fredmeyers again as well they might have been right where I was looking lol. I did get the gumption to make my batch of soap. I have to say baby carrots and lye and butter milk do not smell yummy , I hope they mellow out a bit once the soap has cured cuase man :o as Junie B jones would say they are PU at the moment  I hope I reached trace , I blended and stired and blended and stird for what must have been at least 10 or more minutes I didnt look at the clock, seems like it happens faster in all those Youtube video though. When I poured it I still wasnt sure I saw trace but the soap was the consistancy of somewhere between thin and regular pudding. I guess time will tell. I will wait till Monday or so to try to unmold them. I think I went overboard on the clean up though lol I was so worried about the lye I had the sink half full of water and viniger and I put everything in there as I was done with it then after I was done putting the soap in the molds I rinsed them all out , washed them rinised them with water and viniger again then rinsed them then washed them again

You don't really need the vinegar. Just lots of warm water and soap to clean up with. I use cheap liquid soap from the dollar store to wash my pots and utensils with.

Maybe you could just call and ask about the thermometer so you don't have to make a trip. I do that a lot to keep from running into town. The most you loose for a phone call is a few minutes of time. :)

As for trace, once your batter is not separating anymore when you turn off the blender, you can verify trace by lifting your spoon/spatula/stick blender out of the batter. If you see little ridges on the top of the batter (as you drip/draw a line with the batter)....in other words, if it kind of stays on the top for a few seconds, then you are likely at trace. Much easier to describe when you are seeing it I know. Although I could be wrong, I think that if you watch the soap queen videos on utube she shows what trace looks like [on one of the introductory ones].

Much luck and I am sure your PU will be a Yum soon!

Thats a good Idea I will call them. Thank you.
http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body- ... -baby-bar/

thats the recipie I used except I halved it cuase I didnt want to make alot my first time and accidently mess it up. I watched all her videos and alot on you tube as well , I was just worried that it wasnt really trace. Im sure I will be less nervous as I make more soap and not over wash the poor dishes so much ether lol.

Yes you will calm down more as you gain experience. I am glad you have watched those videos and utube Soap Queen's. I think she does a great job of explaining while not over-complicating things. When I first found BB I watched several of them just to see her teaching style and what she believed in and stood for. Needless to say I am a big AM and BB fan.

I also think it is very smart of you to cut the recipe in half. It really makes great sense and will save you money too! Much luck and I hope you feel better!

Congratulations! I think both of your batches look great!

Remember to zap test them after a few days to make sure neither batch is lye heavy. I always test mine just to make sure.
