If you are only going to use coconut oil, do a 20% superfat. Otherwise the soap will be very drying.
In a regular recipe with other oils/butters, I don't go above 20% coconut oil.

Quick warning: If you make a 100% coconut oil soap in a loaf mold or slab mold without dividers, you will need to cut it before it cools. It gets super hard very quickly. I make mine in individual molds so I don't have to worry about cutting it! :D

If this coconut oil soap, with 20% superfat, is still too drying for your skin...you can do what I did with mine.

Use it in the kitchen.

I am not kidding. Coconut oil soap will cut through the grease on a dirty pan like you've never seen.

Just fill dirty pan with hot water, drop the bar of soap in for 5 minutes. Take it out, swish the water and let it soak for a few.

Amazing cleaner, no wonder it dries out skin.

Some help please?

Ok, so I made Coconutoil soap.

I superfatted at 20% and froze coconutmilk into cubes and disolved the lye in that.
Added just a tablespoon of distilled water to thin out the lyesollution. This I did because I realized that my cocnutmilk was a bit thick (78% coconutextrackt) so wanted to make sure the lye disolved properly.

Recipe is as follows, run through SoapCalc. This is just a testbatch, no fragrance or essential oils:

17.64 oz. coconutoil
2.59 oz. Lye
6.70 oz water

The water I traded into coconut milk. (Brand was BlueDragon. They have a website if you are not familiar with it and want to see how it looks like)

Now it is sitting in a milk carton, heating up real good (uncovered) and I guess that is because of the sugars in the milk. I will chill it so it doesn`t overheat.

My question:
Was the coconut milk to thick, so I should watered it out?
Or should I have used half water half milk? The milk had coconutpulp in it, and smelled really like fresh coconut.

Or is coconutmilk so fatty that I should add it at trace instead the next time, and just use water for the lye?

Thanks in advance!

Did the coconut milk have any guar gum as one of the ingredients?
Yes the milk has sugars which can make the soap overheat.
Next time, I would dissolve the lye in minimum water required and add the rest of the liquid as coconut milk.

I have no idea why your soap ended up gray. Cellulose is normally used for thickening, so I can see why you got a false trace.
