im doing a consesus. cold process soap: scented vs. nonscented. the scented with a godd for you clay and the unscented with just the good for you clay.

what are your thoughts?

honestly, i was just asking opinions like a survey. i prefer unscented with soap made with good oils/clays.

scented all the way. For me I love the CP soap but the wonderful scents just make it. I accidently made one without and everytime I pick up one of those bars I sniff it....oh yeah, unscented.....

I sell mostly scented, but always have 4-5 types of unscented bars available for folks that prefer basic unscented soap.

I make both, but scented allows for a lot of room in interpretation. I do not make, do not buy, and do not like soaps scented with fragrance 'oils'. My target market is people with sensitive skin and those who prefer to live their lives naturally - or as naturally as possible in our society.

Ok. So I've basically decided to forego fragrance oils in my soaps. I want to do an all natural/organic product.

Is there still a market for this? Or has it been saturated already? I

I have in mind a target audience of people who shop at whole food type places. I want good for you vs. smell pretty. Not that good for you can't smell pretty, I just want to get away from fragrance oils. I'm not quite funded to buy the essential oils I want, yet.

Any advice is gratefully appreciated!

Unless you sell online, I would go to your local craft fairs or markets and see what type of soap or body care products they are selling.

I've been to a few and so far I've only seen soap being sold. I will also sell online.

I always keep an "Organic" (I don't like to call any soap organic once the lye hits it) unscented, uncolored castile for the purists, and am now curing a 100% olive oil with lavender, patchouli and colloidal oatmeal. I've also got a castile that was infused with calendula.

In all honesty, they don't sell all that well for me, even my highest sticklers love the fragrances and pretty colors. Thankfully, these castiles do get better with age so I try to always have some on hand. I'm starting to re-brand...adding ingredients that are currently high profile, like Argon oil, silk fiber, etc. and then packaging them in earthy, recycled boxes. Go visit some of the upscale gift shops in your area for ideas on product and packaging. I visited some stores in Truckee and was stunned to find bars of olive oil/lavender soap going for over ten dollars a bar. Its all in the marketing.

I make highly scented/colored bars and I cannot believe how many are sad that I dont have UNscented BUT colored bars. There are so many with scent issues, but they still want the pretty soap. So I made a line of colored fun extra good for you soaps (use better oils, extra goodies to make up for the lack of scent costs) and I have had the MOST success with those!
