No one has attacked you. You have been told the truth, and you didn't like it. Not the same thing at all.
If you perceive an attack, then perhaps you should look at your actions and attitudes a little more closely.

No one has told you to give up cp soaping. In fact, you have been told to work at it MORE, not less.

Your supposed CHOICE to give it up seems rather petulant. Flounce off if you must, but giving it up so easily seems to indicate a lack of genuine interest or commitment to the craft.

You have to work at something to be good at it. The successful soapers at this or any other forum have put in the sweat equity. There is no replacement for that. Asking a million questions and researching for years is good, it helps - but cannot replace the actual time and work.

If all it takes is a few words typed on a screen from a stranger to make you give it all up, then you weren't that into it after all.
Hopefully you'll find another hobby that suits you better.
Best of luck.

Well, I can say that until now everyone had been kind and welcoming. Petulant? No. When you are bashed sometimes it's best to just give in. Passion? I have. I can't sleep some nights because I have so many ideas in my head that won't quit. Sweat equity? That's why I ask questions if new formulas and recipes I am trying. Looking to those who have made those kinds of soaps before. I have a tested recipe. It works. I just think I prefer one with palm better. (Which I asked about of those who have used it since I had not.) this doesn't make me a newbie anymore more than a mom who has two kids and the baby has colic when the first didn't. She just doesn't know what to do in that situation, but she knows how to care for a newborn. I have been successful in my soaps. I just don't like recipe. This doesn't make me stupid or in need of more practice. It just means I haven't found my forever recipe.

I picked soap making as a hobby because I can no longer take the repot ion of knitting and crocheting. I make a batch of soap and clean up. Anyways, maybe you could change the tone in which you respond to people. It can make or break them.

Oh my, lets all keep this friendly shall we? =)

I don't see a major problem with selling the first M&P soap that you make - especially when it's to co-workers and friends who want to help support your creative endeavor. That's really a choice for each individual soaper to make. If it were me, I probably wouldn't sell my first MP soap but my 20th? Sure! Melt and pour is really, really easy. The reality is that melt and pour soap is extremely hard to screw up or make dangerous. You literally would need to add unsafe product to it - and even then, as a rinse off product, you'd really have to add something impressive (battery acid?) to make an unsafe bar of melt and pour soap. That's the beauty of melt and pour - easy, starter project that's difficult to ruin. Cold Process soap, I have a different opinion. Get at least 10-15 batches under your belt, figure out your labeling etc... before selling. That will happen through asking questions and researching.

This board is absolutely someplace to come learn, laugh and grow. Ultimately, we're here for education and the experienced soapers help the new soapers and then the cycle progresses and moves ahead. Those newbies become the statesmen of the group and help the next set of crafters.

I've seen other sites get aggressive and horribly harsh on new people and my sincere desire and hope is that TeachSoap never gets to that position. I want our feedback to be educational, inspiring and creative. There's a way to help educate and inspire at the same time and to keep this board a safe place for crafters of all levels, it's worth it to try to find that thin line and walk it.
