Hi all,
The other day I made my first batch of soap in a tray mould - I'd only used milk cartons and a couple of individual silicon cake moulds before. This was a silicon cake mould as well, but about 8in square with a corrugated bottom which I thought would be a nice touch. The soap has turned out well, it's my first successful itp swirl and I quite like it. Okay, I'm thrilled to bits that it worked :) My question is how big should I have cut the pieces? I've ended up with 15 bars, all approx 3.6oz, with approx measurements (because I didn't use a guide and they're not really uniform) of 3in wide x 1.75 long x 1.5 high. I think they're a little chunky to be comfortable - should I have cut them into a squarer shape? I would have got less bars I guess but that's not an issue. Is 1.5 too thick? I was going to attach a pic but I don't know how :)

Once cured, my bars are 3.25" X 2.25" X 1.15" thick. I cut mine at 1.25". Cured, they are at least 4.5 ozs. by weight.

YES - size matters.

Oh - we're talking about soap?

Well then - I make the size that I find comfortable in my hand. A lot of soaps I see from other people are too big a "face" and way too thin, but that is just personal preference of mine.

The key is being able to cut consistently, keeping track of what the bars cost based on final weight, etc.
But whatever size YOU like, is the right size!!!

I think both size and SHAPE matter. :D For handwashing, I like a bar of soap that's a size and shape that make it comfortable to "roll" in your hands as you wash them. For showering, I think most people tend to hold the soap in one hand and rub it across a pouf or washcloth, or whatever they use to shower. So it should be large enough that it doesn't slip out of your hand and you have to go fishing for it in the drain, but small enough so that it fits comfortably in the hand.
