Teach Soap

So I know I was told I think on here about pH testing. I was told strips are iffy, which I don't think is 100% true. But when I was told I should use a good electric pH tester no one said what kind. I've tested pH since I was in middle school doing river watch projects and I know there are an insane amount to choose from. So any advice on a good model? I'm fine with spending the money if the product is good but hate spending it on something that won't work. I really wish brambleberry sold one since so far almost everything from them has worked pretty great.

I use my tongue. Much cheaper and more accurate then any pH strips.

Zap testing is easier than anything else, but I don't see any reason why it's more accurate. No one has ever given me a good reason that makes sense, and I don't think I've endeared my self to anyone by asking about it on more than one occasion. I do see why most people don't bother with a meter though, there's not much reason to know the specific pH of the soap besides making sure it's not lye heavy because it doesn't seem to vary all that much.

Just out of curiosity are you interested in getting one to make sure your soap's not lye heavy or because you have an interest in knowing the precise pH of your soaps?

Thanks I'll check that out. Yeah I get some people do zap but in my opinion no thanks. The fact that lye can eat through your skin doesn't exactly make me want to lick my soap.

You don't actually lick it. Dampen your finger. Slide that finger across a bar of soap. Lightly touch it to your tongue. If it zaps, you will feel the zap, but it will do no damage to your skin or your tongue. You can rinse your mouth out with some juice when you're done.
