Teach Soap

While making a batch of soap I spilled some of the raw batter down my glove. I have scratches on my forearms from my cross fit cinder block workout today so I felt it immediately, which caused me to spill on (of course) the unprotected part of my counter. I neutralized my arm first, then the counter, but not fast enough. Dear Santa, can I have new counter tops for Christmas? (Preferably before my husband gets home, please)

Yikes! Lye spills suck big time. That's surprising that the raw batter ruined your counter though. I get it on my counter all the time, although mine do have a heat resistant coating on them. I did ruin a small patch of my counter when I spilled a bit of EO on it & didn't realize it until too late. That wasn't fun.

My arm was fine, I think I just didn't clean the counter fast enough. My counters aren't anything special, laminate that looks like butcher block. It actually isn't as bad as I first thought, it took the shine off some areas, but you can only see it from certain angles. It's one of those things that bothers me because I know it's there, but no one who has come over commented on it, so either they can't see it or they just thought my counter top hadn't been wiped down and were too polite to call attention to it.

I'm glad your arm is ok. Sounds like the counter is ok too.

Could you get like a kitchen wax or furniture wax and wipe down the counter tops with that? Maybe some of the shine would come back?

Thanks! I plan to re-do the kitchen counter tops when he makes my soaping room, then I can use the old kitchen ones in the soap room. I love the granite look, especially the darker greys and black. I've already been "window shopping" online! You're right about not going cheap lhangen, my kitchen counters get a lot of use!
