Teach Soap

I tried a Amish recipe for a CP Soap, and used the wrong amount of
Soy oil. Instead of 1 pound, I used 1 cup. I would like to rebatch
If I add the extra the oil I left out (about 3/4 to a cup) would it decrease
the sudsing of the soap? would it saponify with the rest of the oils?

The recipe also calls to add 1 cup of lemon juice to neutralize.
It seems like a nice soap but I am concerned about the lack of
soy oil. I did run thru the calculator and the lye amount is a little
high, but the lemon juice is supposed to take care of that. I'd appreciate
your input. Thanks!

I'm sorry but that's a terrible recipe. Your soap starts out lye heavy, then some of it gets neutralized by the lemon juice. You won't know how much your soap is superfated. I would start over. If you need a recipes, I would be happy to help you with one.

I agree with Irena 100%. Cups are an extremely inaccurate way to measure when soap making, and a recipe that requires citric acid to neutralize excess lye is bound to be very drying. Generally you want too much fat for the lye to 'consume'; the 'superfat'. This leaves some unsaponified oils to nourish your skin. Without that added fat the soap tends to pull natural oils from the skin causing dryness.

Thanks for your replies and the offer for recipe help. I have been making
and selling soaps for over 10 years so I have plenty of recipes. I just saw
this on the internet and thought I'd try it as an experiment. I just had a
brain lapse over the one cup and one pound. When done correctly, it was
a pretty nice recipe that suds nicely. I will use the incorrect batch for laundry
soap.
