Teach Soap

Hi! I am making CP soap in BBs 1lb loaf mold, in my 2 lb wood mold with BB liner, and will soon be trying the larger 10" silicone mold. I have noticed that even in the 1lb mold my soap heats up enough, with or without insulating, to hit gel phase in the middle. I was going to try to prevent gel phase because I like the "creamy" look of un-gelled soap by putting it in the fridge or freezer, but i had a couple of questions. Which works better, fridge or freezer? How long should it be left in either one? And lastly, will all my food smell like the FO I am using?

You can use either! I recommend the freezer for soaps with lots of sugars (milk, honey, beer etc), or florals. The fridge is perfect for your average batch. And you can leave the soap in even overnight! If it is in the freezer overnight just make sure you thaw it all the way through before cutting!

If you scent your soaps decently strongly you may find everything in your fridge/freezer smells like your soap I had some lovely lavender chicken once!

Do you think some fresh baking soda in the fridge/freezer while the soap is in curing would help absorb the scent?

I prefer not to gel, so my soaps go in the fridge or the freezer; up to overnight. I haven't noticed any scent transferring to anything else that I have in there.

When I put my soap in the fridge I find that it is too soft to cut before 48 hrs. Sometimes it takes 3 days before its ready. My gelled soap is ready to cut in 24 hrs. I do use 38% water most of the time.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I scent, using BB Fragrance calc, at the low end. I will try using the fridge on my next batch and the freezer for any "sugar" soap. Probably would have worked like a dream for my first beer soap I did last weekend.
